Ferrit.co.nz officially remain at the top of my "New Zealands next Flying Pig" list.
Telecom (the owners of ferrit.co.nz and New Zealands largest corporation) simply don't get the net. Take this example from the sideswipe section of todays NZ Herald online.
This follows on the tail of last years embarrassment where Ferrit was caught out writing their own customer product reviews.
Ferrit is a classic example of the vast gulf between those in business who get the net and those who don't. Its my belief that the main issue that ferrit is always going to have relates to the fact that on the Internet - the customer truly is God. Ferrits owners Telecom have a shocking history of abusing the monopoly that they have in New Zealand. Part and parcel of this abuse has been exploiting the fact that the average kiwi has no coice but to take the crappy technology that Telecom gives us.
Finally (thank God) it seems that all those years of the "lets work like a team and do it my way" marketing tactics have lead to a marketing team that is now completely uneducated on how to effectively market their product in a competitive situation.
I heard a rumor that Telecom has boosted Ferrits annual marketing investment to somewhere in the late 20 millions. Recently I acquired statistics from Hitwise that show Ferrits market share dwindling at below 1% in the "online shopping" category and looking pretty stagnant.
Poor old Telecom. Naaaaaaaaat.
