I first learned of Bumpzee! some months back when I was reading Jeremy Schoemaker's blog more regularly. At the time, Jeremy had sort of had a falling out with MyBlogLog and was talking about the features of his replacement solution- bumpzee.
My interest in affiliate marketing, a specialty of shoemoney, is quite sporadic and as a result I have not been a frequent reader of late. Hence, I forgot all about bumpzee. Until....the other day when I was reminded by a visit to a random blog that was part of a bumpzee community. So I decided to take a deeper look at Bumpzee!
Bumpzee is best described as bit of a mixture of the best parts of digg, mybloglog and even a few elements of facebook. It's all about creating communities of like-minded people and facilitating their interaction. There are communities that have managers. Blog postings from community members are pulled in automatically via feeds and there is a forum like facility to allow members to discuss relevant topics.
Posts within each community that are popular can be bumped (like a being dug on digg). This function ensures that the best and most relevant topics float there way to the top of each communities blog content.
One really nice feature that Bumpzee has is a basic analytics plugin that tacks onto the bottom of your bumpzee blog widget, thats mine on the right there (middle column underneath mybloglog recent readers). The widget gives some basic site data, however, only the site owner can see the data.
After being rejected (kindly) by the Australian bloggers bumpzee community I have decided to start a New Zealand bloggers community. If you are a blogger from New Zealand go on and join up to bumpzee and add your blog and profile to the New Zealand Bloggers group!
