I’m down in Sunny Wellington at the moment. Yep that’s right sunny! Not a lot of time to post so I thought a bit of a book recommendation would be a good idea.
I was floating around Whitcoulls in the Auckland Domestic Airport when I came across the book. I am not a huge reader; however, when I do look for books I tend to keep an eye out for key words in the titles. Two of these words are ‘marketing’ and ‘strategy’
Today, as luck would have it, I found a book called Sun Tzu Strategies for Marketing! The book’s written by the Michaelson brothers (Gerard and Steven).
The principles of the book are based on adaptations of the Eastern War strategies documented by the famous ancient Chinese military genius Sun Tzu. In the book, Tzu’s principles have been cleverly interpreted for effective use by marketing strategists.
I never really listened at school, so the first time I learned of Sun Tzu was through a document that was written by one of my colleagues a number of years back. The document was feasibility study around a proposed web 2.0 start-up. The opening line in the document was a famous Tzu quote:
“Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat!”
To this day I have never forgotten reading those words for the first time. Powerful stuff, and so far the book is not disappointing either.
Hey mate, can I borrow it when you're through? I have a selection of riveting sql manuals to trade if that increases my chances.
