Thanks to everyone who is reading half-geek and hopefully enjoying my take on all things kiwi web 2.0.
As you may have noticed, I have a few advertisements on this website. These are affiliate advertisements from Kontera and Fishpond and yes, they do generate revenue.
Up until recently, this revenue was errr....slim to none. However, a recent growth in traffic and subscribers at half-geek has meant that these ads are actually generating a little bit of $. We are not talking a whole lot of money here.
Anyway the point of this post is two-fold. Firstly I wanted to disclose the fact that I will probably generate revenue from this blog (although this is not the primary objective of my blog). Before you delete my RSS feed, let me tell you what I intend to do with the money.
Kiva is a micro funding or micro financing organisation that helps small business owners in poorer circumstances raise the money that they need to run their private businesses. It is a great idea and I love it particularly as it shows what good can be done utilising the opportunities that the 2.0 web offers.
I have decided that all the ad revenue from this site, no matter how much, will go into my Kiva account. The money will be loaned to businesses that are part of the Kiva community. Given that the two affiliate programs that I use only pay out when a balance of $100 is reached, payments to Kiva may be a little way off.
To get things started, I have made the maximum donation of $25USD to a Samoan business today. You can keep up to date with the progress of Litia Mailo and her Agriculture business through her Kiva RSS feed which is available on this page. Please feel free to view my Kiva lenders page as well.
